Update: December 2021

It's gratifying to see that people are still using this blog, and that they still find it useful. What matters, chiefly, is that it provides a record of reviews in the Monthly Film Bulletin, from 1934 until it ceased publication in 1991. Everything else is gravy.

However, I'm aware that individual entries require updating, due to a number of mistakes and inaccuracies which made it into the finished product. This was always an inevitability, given the size and scope of the project.

Right now, I'm working on an alternate index of every feature film released in the UK since 1908. Yep - every single one of 'em! Part of it will incorporate the statutory register of features registered with the Board of Trade between January 1928 and May 1985, as complete a record of theatrical exhibition in this country as can be found anywhere. It included everything, from Lawrence of Arabia to The Wild Women of Wongo, and all points in between!

The rest of the index will be taken from a variety of sources, and will include everything from the oldest feature film ever released here - The Passion Play (1903, UK release: 1910) - right up to the present day (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, etc.). Month by month, as it happened.

UPDATE: I was hoping to get the Index off and running in January, but this is now impossible. Still pulling together all the necessary info regarding the silent era, which is proving much more arduous than originally anticipated. But the result will - I hope - be definitive, and provide the complete history of commercial film exhibition in this country, from start to finish.

I'll provide a link here as soon as the other site goes live (March 2022). At some point thereafter, this Index will be significantly reduced in size, eliminating all but the entries related to the Monthly Film Bulletin.

Tell yer friends!
